REDEMPTION

"Redemption" is about the extraordinary and costly transaction of salvation. More so, it is about God's wonderful love and intervention. The window represents spiritual imprisonment to our sinful nature. Our sins surround us--whether in thought or deed--as on a recorded slate. They testify of our guilt before a Holy God. Because of our sins, a barrier exists that we cannot cross: "Your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you" (Isa 59:2). The result will be eternal condemnation, for only the righteous can see God. Yet the Bible declares, “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Ro 3:10).

Heaven is red and black with fury to be poured out upon us on the day of Judgment. Yet in His mercy, God devised a plan to save us without compromising His holy justice: He sent His Son to receive the punishment we deserve, so that if we believe we would be declared righteous before Him: "For God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Co 5:21); "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Ro 8:1).

God sought to restore us to himself by breaking through the dividing wall of hostility. The intravenous tube illustrates the tremendous cost He paid to buy our pardon; the blood He spills is His own: "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Ro 5:8). Light floods into our lives, chasing away the darkness, and our slate is wiped clean. Yet the tube also illustrates that God's life and Spirit infuses us with new life, with the Spirit of God which works to transform us into the image of Christ (sanctification). We are made alive in Christ.

As we believe in His redemptive work, faith is made manifest by turning from our sinful ways. The mirror, which reflects our selfish and godless life, is smashed. Jesus frees us from our bondage to sin (the broken window) and the power of sin is destroyed.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus" (Ro 3:23,24).

“Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Heb 9:22).

“We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Heb 10:10).
